Does anyone know if there is a character limit on REGEXP in a SELECT query?

Is there any character limits for doing the REGEXP expressions in a SELECT query? We have a really weird thing going on with a customer where we add slightly more to a regex expression when searching for findings and then suddenly we get none back.

We are running self-hosted and version 7.6.13
