Yesterday SingleStore achieved a significant milestone. We made our debut in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Cloud Database Management Systems (CDBMS). This is very exciting for us. DB-Engines.com lists 360 database vendors, only 20 of those made it onto this esteemed list.

We owe this recognition first to our customers who have chosen SingleStore. We thank you for your trust and commitment to our product and for believing in our vision. Second, we owe it to our partners, for embracing the integration of SingleStore into your solutions. And finally we owe it to our growing team, for your incredible passion, integrity, and drive. We’re on an exciting journey, and such strong support is instrumental as we navigate this lively market.

The Market Demands A New Modern Database

I believe SingleStore is being recognized at a pivotal time in the evolution of database technology. Major forces such as an increase in data intensity and the rise of new demanding applications with low-latency and high-concurrency needs are causing a disruption in the way data is managed. Applications across all industries and use cases are becoming increasingly data-intensive.

A common workaround has been to ‘duct-tape’ multiple single-purpose databases together to achieve the scale, performance, and specific features needed to handle such workloads. But this causes database sprawl, sacrifices performance, and increases IT complexity and/cost. This is not ideal and is becoming more of a burden than a boon for any organization to manage.

I believe the majority of the applications in the future will be data-intensive by default. The builders of these applications will be expected to provide superb digital experiences for their customers, and demand has never been higher for fast, accurate decisions at reduced cost and complexity. A new ultra-fast modern database -- one that is built for the cloud, is scalable, supports any data model, and is based on a relational foundation -- is needed to keep up. The Sky's the Limit

Inclusion in this year’s CDBMS Gartner Magic Quadrant is just the beginning, we can only go up from here (well up and to the right). We have grown tremendously since our rebrand a year ago. The San Francisco Business Times ranked us #35 in its annual list of the Fastest-Growing Private Companies in the Bay Area, and we were ranked #126 nationally in Deloitte Fast 500 awards - just some of many industry awards we’ve won recognizing our growth. Our headcount has jumped from 200 employees to more than 300, including international expansion into Europe and Asia. Finally, SingleStore closed Series E and F \$80M rounds of funding (each) and opened a new office to tap into the technology talent in the Raleigh, N.C., area. We serve half of the top 10 banks, 12 of the Fortune 50, two of the top three telcos, and many tech innovators.
