Reflecting on 2023

I cherish the end-of-year holiday season. From Thanksgiving through New Year’s Day, it's when we spend time with loved ones and reflect on the year we leave behind. As 2023 concludes, I'd like to express gratitude for key milestones of our company over the past 12 months.

Shining bright at the World Economic Forum (WEF)

In January, SingleStore participated in the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland for the first time. On behalf of our company, I spoke on the panel “Start-ups in Austerity,” highlighting the critical need for real-time solutions to sift, organize and deliver the vast amount of data present in our modern world. I had so many warm and meaningful interactions with people who were interested in learning and wanting to leave a mark on the world — not by profiting from it, but by making it better. You can read through my reflections from the event here.

I’m thrilled to be representing SingleStore in Davos again in January 2024. This time the conversation will focus on how businesses can embrace the ethical use of AI, and how real-time data can power this new technology to reach its full potential. Stay tuned for all the details.

Introducing new solutions and AI innovations

SingleStore reached new heights in 2023, launching innovative products including SQrL (“squirrel”), a generative AI chatbot that allows customers to search their own data stored in SingleStoreDB, and SingleStore Kai™, an API that drives up to 100x faster analytics for applications built on MongoDB®.

On October 17, the Chase Center in San Francisco was bathed in purple as SingleStore took over the arena to host its inaugural conference, SingleStore Now. During the event, we revealed how SingleStore is making real-time AI a reality with the launch of advanced vector search capabilities, SingleStore Elegance (a new SDK), our SingleStore Aura compute service, among many more innovations. We also shared our collaborations with partners like Google, Amazon Web Services and IBM.

Launching the “Into The Singleverse” podcast

Launching this podcast has been a blast. I’ve interviewed an incredible array of inspiring people. We’ve talked about everything from tech, life, sports and burnout to family and career journeys. The episodes are conversations about how technological innovation improves our lives. I will be continuing these discussions over the next year and am excited to have amazing guests lined up — previous episodes can be accessed here.

SingleStore in the media

Our work was featured in some pretty important broadcast media this year. I discussed  the “AI buzz” with Bloomberg’s Francine Lacqua, explaining why generative AI is good for society, business and mankind. I also highlighted that companies should be responsible with the data they use — their value proposition should be aligned with their values. This video ties into a larger theme we’ve carried out throughout this year, which is that for AI to be meaningful, it must focus on impact. It should never be about money or power, but more about how this technology can amplify our intelligence to make us better humans.

SingleStore was also featured on CBS News Innovators & Disruptors in a segment that showcased how we’re harnessing the power of real-time AI in our flagship database, SingleStoreDB, to provide real-time insights for our customers. SingleStore Kai™ for MongoDB was also named the Database Technology of the Year by Infoworld.

Additionally, I was thrilled to be interviewed on theCUBE alongside Kannan D.R., Chief Architect of LiveRamp at GoogleNext 2023. Kannan and I discussed LiveRamp’s partnership with SingleStore to make their data faster for customers via our incredible vector and semantic search capabilities. LiveRamp’s combination of Google’s Cloud Storage with SingleStoreDB brought their batch process time down from 20+ hours to seconds. This has allowed LiveRamp to benefit users by offering real-time processing on their platform.

In conclusion, I have grown quite passionate about our mission to keep complex things simple. Only simplicity scales, and it is the only way to make AI — and technology in general — more accessible.

These achievements would not have been possible without the innovation, brilliance and support of our amazing  SingleStore team. I am very much looking forward to all we can accomplish next year. Thank you to every single person who supported us throughout 2023. I can’t wait to see what 2024 brings.
